Forestry and Land Scotland

Formerly known as Forestry Commission Scotland, Forestry and Land Scotland is the Scottish Government agency responsible for managing the national forests and land. It was formed on 1 April 2019 after Forestry Commission Scotland was dissolved. As a new entity with a new name, they needed a modernised visual identity that made them stand out while also making a visual reference to their heritage as part of the Forestry Commission.

Aimed at woodland visitors and communities, the new identity needed to be simple and instantly recognisable. Our starting point was the new logo, which brings together trees and land representing them in one unifying, flowing stroke, complemented by vertical marks that hint at the depth and scale of forests. The stroke is left open to reflect a welcoming and accessible nature of the organisation.
